Eco Church
Heswall Parish fully embraces the priority given to the environment by the Church of England and Chester Diocese. We have been awarded Silver in the A Rocha Eco-Church scheme. Our current goal is to achieve the Gold award.
We mark the Season of Creation in the church calendar, firstly wanting to celebrate the wonder of God’s creation and secondly wanting to raise awareness about climate change and threats to the environment which affect us all, but unjustly impact the world’s poorest people the most. We regard the environment as central to our Christian faith, working to protect the Earth, for “The Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.”
The church actively participates in Cool Heswall – a community event organised annually to bring together local groups with shared concern for the environment and commitment to climate action. We partner with other groups including Faiths for Change and Plastic-free Heswall.
The energy profile of St. Peter’s Church is kept under constant review and we are considering solar panels for the roof of St. Peter’s Centre. The churchyard is maintained as a wild-life friendly space with bat, bird and hedgehog boxes.
The newly built Lighthouse Church was designed with green issues in mind:- it is very well insulated, has an air-source heat pump and solar panels. It won the Church Times Green Church Award in 2024.
The Parish has an enthusiastic Eco Team which welcomes new members. We can be contacted via the Parish Office.

A Rocha Silver EcoChurch
We are delighted to announce we have achieved the A Rocha Silver EcoChurch Award. This recognises steps we have taken to care for God's earth across key areas of church life including worship and teaching, management of church buildings and land, community and global engagement and lifestyle.

your carbon footprint

Help us live up to our commitment to care for God’s creation by testing your household’s carbon footprint by using the easy five minute tool at https://climatehero.me. How can we reduce our impact by reviewing our consumption, housing and travel.
Please send your results for each heading and total to the Church Office (office@heswallparish.co.uk), or direct to Mike Barritt (mk@mbarritt.com). They will all be treated confidentially and anonymously, to produce an average result for the parish and to point us to ways of improving by working together.
fairtrade church
Fairtrade is making a real difference to the lives of more than 7 million farmers, workers and their families in 59 developing countries. We are a Fairtrade Church. As such, our Church commits to:
- Use Fairtrade products wherever possible (at least tea, coffee and sugar) and to share this information with congregants.
- Celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight and integrate Fairtrade into the life of our places of worship through other faith-based holidays, sermons and services.
- Engage with other Fairtrade campaigns and connect with community groups, such as schools and towns, where possible.
